Part VI
Is Papicide a Word?
âThatâs a little on the melodramatic side, but close enough,â said Mestoph as he stood with his hands on his hips, looking down at the motionless Pope.
He was trying to decide the best way to essentially use the limp Pope as a drawing instrument to alter the pentagram. After trying out a couple different arrangements in his head, Mestoph decided on the way to do it. It wasnât necessarily the best or most graceful, but it was what he could come up with in the moment. After a fair amount of explaining and gesturing to Leviticus, Mestoph finally found himself on the ground on all fours with the Pope on his back. Leviticus was taking up most of the weight by holding the Popes body around the waist while Mestoph wrapped his left arm around the left arm of the Pope. He sliced the Popes index finger and then began crawling around, adding or altering sections of the pentagram seemingly at random.
The writing that Mestoph hadnât understood while hanging upside down over the pentagram he now realized was a mixture of completed runes and intentionally incomplete runes. There was only one solution to the pentagram, and once Mestoph looked at it as an incomplete sentence, it was fairly easy to fill in the blanks.
âItâs still missing something,â said Mestoph, panting from the exertion. Even though Leviticus was carrying the Popeâs body as much as he could, he still had to shoulder his share so that Leviticus would know where to move.
âI donât think we have much time, Mestoph. The Pope is barely breathing and his pulse is really faint,â said Leviticus.
Mestoph looked up at Hermes, who hadnât stopped grinning. Mestoph sighed, and motioned Leviticus to follow his lead again. He didnât add to the pentagram any more, but instead began blotting out small sections of symbols and runes. From a distance, it would have been impossible to tell, but Mestoph was no longer using the Popeâs blood to paint in the pentagram. He was fairly certain that he had done enough to lower the defenses, but he knew Hermes would likely have some kind of surprise in store, so he wanted to have one of his own.
âYou ready?â asked Mestoph, softly.
âIf you are,â said Leviticus.
Mestoph looked up to Hermes again and smiled. Hermesâ smile faltered slightly. He knew Mestoph was up to something but was still confident he had the upper hand.
âNow!â shouted Mestoph.
Leviticus quickly jerked the Pope up and hugged the manâs body to his chest and disappeared with a loud pop. At the same time Mestoph slit his wrist with the dagger and then quickly threw it as hard as he could towards where Hermesâ heart had probably been once upon a time and then he too was gone in a pop. The sudden, doubled decompression of the Angel and Demon teleporting out created a concussive shockwave that ricocheted off the walls of the seamless cavern room. Had the room not been solid rock deep underground it would have imploded briefly before it exploded.
